Superstitions

Its amazing how even with my Christian faith anything that I have heard throughout my lifetime that was somewhat superstitious kind of does affect me apart from Friday the 13th and the meeting a woman in the morning though considering that I am one this wouldn’t apply to me I guess.
But the superstitions that affect me the most are those that have to do with death for example when I was eight Bosco my brother’s friend said that there was this bird that if it looked down and its head feathers shot up it meant that you parents were going to die- up to now there is this park I pass full of those birds and trust me I avoid eye contact. Which makes me wonder shouldn’t like out grow stuff like that by now?.
Then there was this one I remember growing up that if you see an owe it means some one has crossed over hence you are getting news of the death of a loved one. And I remember clearly the day I saw an owl and news came that an uncle had died.
Then the one I have been fighting over the past few days was the one that when you start breaking things a loved one is bound to meet their end. Yesterday I broke two cups and a plate in a space of four hours immediately I started thinking about those people that have a permanent place in my heart. I started praying like my life deepened on it. And then today I almost broke another plate my heart skipped and I decided to call home on my way from work - every one was ok, I exhaled.
So this left me wondering whether tradition affects my belief and faith in God that nothing can happen that I can not handle. Are superstitions coincidences or are they actually fates that are bound to happen to lead to an event?

For me it's the dreams, they seem so potent at times.

All I know is that God is in charge and he orchestrates the events of my life. The ones the devil brings to harm me, God turns around for my good - eventually.

I'm glad your family is well.

I've had about the owl and indeed one time an owl entered our library and my friend the librarian accidentally looked at it's eyes. A few days later, her baby sister died from a long illness.

I do not believe in superstitions. Sybella is right, sometimes the superstitions are so ingrained that its hard to let them go.

I believe this is why the bible emphasizes that we guard our minds and all that enters it.

Ultimately God is in charge, I do not believe you should allow a string of superstitions dictate how you feel.

Scary and creepy, redeem yourself with another poem, anyways superstitions are just that, superstitions try and ignore them.

Glad you prayed about it. Nothing will happen just have faith and believe that God conquers all forms of superstition.

I believe some of these myths, for me, when my left hand itches me it means I am about to come into money and when its the right...well some money is on the way out of my pocket. Wrote a post about this last year ~My itchy Left Palm (http://www.tairebabs.org/2008/04/my-itchy-left-palm.html)

lol..You can only be held captive by the things you believe in..If you let go for once disregaring whatever superstitions you hold, staring it in the face and calling on the name of God to be your shield, trust me all those fears will be nothing other than what it is called..Fear...
